MOP DC/DA Contracts

Meter Operators and Meter Asset Managers – what they do and why you need one

All electricity and gas meters require a Meter Operator, also known as a MOP, for electricity and a Meter Asset Manager (MAM) for gas. A Data Collector (DC) and Data Aggregator (DA) are also required. Energy suppliers will have default providers they utilise as standard unless you specifically request that you wish to use an alternative. The charges for Meter Operators, Data Collectors and Data Aggregators are included in the standing charge on your supply contract or are levied as direct fees between you and the meter operator/meter asset manager.

Depending on the type of supply point you are responsible for, it can be advantageous to review your MOP, MAM, and DC/DA services for potential financial savings, better service, and more timely data provision for energy monitoring and targeting.

Your energy supply contract and Meter Operator agreement are independent of each other. As a result, we can tender for MOP, MAM, and DC/DA needs to ensure you have the optimal arrangements in place. This can be as a standalone service or as part of our energy supply contract tendering service.

We will then provide you access to your metering data via the Consultiv Connect platform so that you can proactively track your energy usage.

FAQs

What is a Meter Operator (MOP) contract?

A Meter Operator (MOP) contract is an agreement between a business and a meter operator company. It covers the installation, maintenance, and management of energy meters, ensuring accurate usage recording, proper upkeep, and regulatory compliance.

What is a Data Collector (DC)?

A Data Collector is responsible for accurately gathering and processing meter readings from energy meters. This data is then forwarded to the Data Aggregator.

What is a Data Aggregator (DA)?

A Data Aggregator collects and compiles energy usage data from multiple sources, consolidating it for analysis, reporting, and billing purposes. They ensure the data is accurate and comprehensive.

What is a Meter Operator?

A Meter Operator installs, maintains, and ensures accurate operation of energy meters, collects data for billing, and ensures compliance with regulations in the energy supply chain.

How do I find out who my Meter Operator is?

Your energy supplier will be able to let you know who your MOP is (or MAM for gas). It could be a default supplier and therefore there may be an opportunity to review your MOP contract and switch MOP supplier for a cost saving.
